Beth Hart, a Los Angeles native, is a blues-styled singer and former street performer. In 1995, she made her debut with Immortal. Her outspoken personality and gifted musicianship attracted attention in addition to her live shows that were emotional and her voice that was compared to Janis Joplin. "Hart is the definition of a woman who is natural," wrote Chuck Taylor for the October 2, 1999, issue of Billboard magazine "bawdy and funny, chatty and free-wheeling with her choice of spicy words. However, none of that is comparable to her stage presence. The tall, muscular singer/songwriter strolls and squalls out songs alongside Mick Jagger . At other times, she'll take her place at the piano or centerstage and her legs are placed over chairs, and her voice is so delicate and painfulthat it's hard to tell if she's going to cry or whether you'll. Hart was subject to similar reactions from the time she first took to the stage in amateur competitions when she was a teen. But Hart was skeptical about the business of music before it was finally a success. Hart ended her performance after she was unsuccessful in touring all over the world. Hart then spent nearly four years soul-searching and resolving problems through music writing. Then, ready to give her career a chance to shine she resurfaced in 1999 with the highly acclaimed Screamin' for My Supper the album that was a culmination of Hart's songwriting abilities and honest songs about dealing with life's challenges.
